Iran, Pakistan officials emphasize regional stability, convergence

During a phone call on Sunday, Bahrami and Sadiq Khan discussed recent regional developments, particularly the rising tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Bahrami expressed the Islamic Republic of Iran’s readiness to help reduce tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

In recent days, Pakistan and Afghanistan have experienced increased tensions, raising concerns in the region.

The Pakistani army has confirmed that 23 of its soldiers were killed in overnight border clashes with the Taliban. In contrast, the Afghan caretaker government reported that 58 Pakistani soldiers had been killed.

Afghan officials have accused Pakistan of bombing the city of Kabul and a market in eastern Afghanistan. Islamabad has rejected the claim.

Iran, which shares borders with both countries, has historically positioned itself as a mediator in disputes within South and Central Asia. The country emphasizes dialogue and diplomacy as essential tools to prevent conflicts from escalating and affecting broader regional stability.

On Sunday morning, Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, expressed concern over the recent developments between Pakistan and Afghanistan, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect for each country’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty.

The senior Iranian diplomat called for restraint and the immediate initiation of dialogue between the two sides to reduce tensions and resolve disputes through diplomacy.

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran attaches great importance to maintaining peace and stability in its surrounding region. He reaffirmed Iran’s readiness to offer any assistance necessary to help de-escalate tensions between the two neighboring Muslim countries.
