New Appointment for an Iranian-American Woman at the U.S. State Department

According to KhabarOnline, Ms. Mora Namdar, who had previously been serving at the U.S. State Department, has now been transferred under a new appointment to the department’s consular bureau. Some media outlets have inaccurately described her as having been appointed Assistant Secretary of State. However, the U.S. State Department’s own website clarified in its announcement that Ms. Namdar had served as a senior official at the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs until December 1, and has now been appointed Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs. In this role, she is responsible for policy oversight related to visa issuance, assistance to U.S. citizens abroad, and supervision of consular services.

Ms. Namdar, described as a native Texan, is the daughter of an Iranian immigrant family and is fluent in Persian. She holds a law degree from universities in Texas and Washington, and prior to joining the State Department, she worked as an attorney and legal adviser. She has received Senate confirmation for her current position.

Voice of America (VOA) also reported on other recent appointments at the U.S. State Department. Among them is Tammy Bruce, who has been nominated as the U.S. Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations and has received Senate confirmation. Bruce previously served as spokesperson for the U.S. State Department and has a background in media, including work with Fox News.
Tammy Bruce served as the State Department spokesperson until August 2025 and will now move into the field of multilateral diplomacy, where she is expected to play a new role in advancing U.S. positions at the United Nations—an institution that remains one of the most significant arenas of diplomatic confrontation between Washington and its international rivals.

A third notable appointment is the designation of Rabbi Yehuda Kaploun as the U.S. Special Envoy for Monitoring and Combating Antisemitism. This role has gained increased prominence in recent years amid rising global concerns over antisemitism and reflects the U.S. administration’s heightened focus on the issue in both domestic and foreign policy.

According to Khabar Online, Ms. Namdar’s work, under the State Department’s organizational chart, is conducted under the supervision of the Deputy Under Secretary of State. Her new position within the consular bureau is fully administrative and non-political, with no direct connection to policymaking on Iran or the Middle East. The consular portfolio includes visa matters, passports, citizen services, and executive oversight, all of which fall within her responsibilities.
